Guys, Merry Christmas!!!
Thanks for holding down the fort. Make sure our lab is well maintained and that no one is eating or drinking in the lab. I am trying to coordinate for you guys to make an off-site work visit at our new center called, Phipps Opportunity Center. If we don't get this new site done this week, we will get it done in Jan, probably the 4th if you're all present. In the meantime, hang tough and protect our lab from abuse, drinks, and food. Review our lab rules if you haven't already.

Rafael, let me hear from you. Always, post to this blog when you get a task done.

These are your assignments during staff vacations:

1. Update the Reading Companion Software on all the IBM Laptops. Please get David and Rafael to assist when possible. Speak toAngelo and Juliana as to when they'll be available so that you can get the keys to the cart. This is extremely important because Juliana or Angelo may be on vacation now or soon.
2. Run a practice scan on the new scanner. Check to see if it works and saves to the computer it is attached too. Have David and Rafael do the same.
3. Off-site assignment: you will need to report to the Phipps Opportunity Center at Melrose
   to organize the cable wires for the PC Lab. We need to prep this room for use this January. I also want you to familiarize yourself with this new site and staff.
4. I will be checking my e-mail and bog periodically in anticipation that these assignements will be completed by Dec 28th. Please continue to post to blog and make sure David and Rafael do so as well.

Assignment #1 for Rafael Merced

Rafael, whatever David does not finish, you are in charge of following up with the cleaning and disenfecting of our technology equipment and supplies. In addition, you will need to wipe down all the mice and keyboards thoroughly. I'll try to get you some compressed air to blow out keyboard dust under the keys. You will also tend to the cleaning and organization of the Mac Lab. Make sure you shut down the lab on Friday since we are closed the next 2 Saturdays.

Assignment #2 for David Bravo

David, you are in charge of cleaning up the tabletops in our PC Lab. Please wipe and clean under the keyboard and the CPU itself; they are very dusty. Also clean all printers, doorknobs, carts, and projector; in both the PC Lab and ETP Office.

• Mohamed > Develop ID for Rafael
• David > Introduce Rafael to the blog and what it is for and when you do, post it on this blog letting me know that you did this. I'll be looking for Rafael's e-mail address
• Remember to start collecting everyday technology related icons - i.e. - ie6, RealPlayer, WinMedia Player, Blog, all MS Office apps, etc... You might need Mohamed's help.
• Rafael > make sure all Macs are running properly and not in a frozen state. Make sure all Mac computers are shut off for the weekend when you're done. E-mail me a small report if any Macs have a problem.
• Lastly, review the assignments and check for comments. Practice leaving a comment for Florence Eng who commented on your performance in ETP. Mohamed, I saw your comment, good job with that.

Great job overall getting the assignments done. Keep up the communication on this Blog and regular e-mail.

IBM labtops

Im installing java on them, jigzone is working, doing updates on them also.

Java on Laptops

Please install Java on all IBM laptops. Go to jigzone.com on the computers and you will see the problem come up.

Also, organize the power plugs in the carts so that they stay put and out of the way. Try taping the the power plugs to the cart walls inside leaving enough slack to unplug to/from the laptops.

Mohamed,
The next steps to bring the laptops back into use for ESL have been e-mailed to you. When you're finished with the changes, hand them off to me to look them over and make the final changes. I want to make these laptops available for ESL staff beginning next week.

Also, make sure there are only 2 fields users can see when they log in. I'll show you. AND pay attention to detail. This will be very important. ~aa

Laptop

The laptop are complete, about 2 wouldn't log me in as esl or phuser, but i put sticky note on them, that if you want to check it out. The Ink cartridge I tape them all together and its out in front.

Clean-Up

You may just have to assert yourself and state to the users that it is necessary. Say that you're doing it for their benefit because there have been several sick people in this week and it's even more important to clean and dissenfect the computers. Try to be diplomatic about it.

Your other option is to come in earlier on Saturday by 10am before Open Lab starts. Speak to Marilyn and make arrangements with her or Tony.

Regardless, the lab has to be cleaned and wiped down when you're here.

Mac, Pc, Kiosk clean up

I'll do the mac and the kiosk, but the pc lab, i'm not sure- why because I dont want to clean it while people are in the lab, i did that once, some were complaining about the fume the cleaner are giving off, and if i do it after the 6:00 class, i wont have time due to the fact i leave at 7:30
